Exam practice, offline
German mock exams from A1 to C2, on your phone
Sogda has 36 mock exams, 3 for each of its 12 steps from A1.1 to C2.2. Each has 40 questions plus a writing and a speaking task, 48 points in all, with a result for each section; they're generated from the step's own words and grammar, work offline, and aren't official Goethe or telc papers.
What's in each paper
Every paper has the same sections, in this order, drawn from the step's words and grammar:
- Vocabulary: 10 questions
- Reverse: 8 questions
- Articles: 6 questions
- Word forms: 4 questions
- Gap fill: 6 questions
- Grammar: 4 questions
- Listening: 2 questions
- Writing: one task, 4 points
- Speaking: one task, 4 points
Writing and speaking, level by level
The writing task asks for a minimum length and the speaking task has a time limit, both set by the level. Each level names the exams its steps are built around:
- A1: write at least 30 words, speak for up to 60 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat A1 · Start Deutsch 1.
- A2: write at least 60 words, speak for up to 60 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat A2.
- B1: write at least 100 words, speak for up to 90 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat B1 · telc Deutsch B1.
- B2: write at least 150 words, speak for up to 90 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat B2 · telc Deutsch B2.
- C1: write at least 200 words, speak for up to 120 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat C1 · telc Deutsch C1.
- C2: write at least 250 words, speak for up to 120 seconds. Built around Goethe-Zertifikat C2 · Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom.
How they compare with the Goethe and telc exams
The Goethe-Zertifikat and telc Deutsch exams test reading, listening, writing and speaking at each level. Sogda's papers share three of those skills, listening, writing and speaking, and add vocabulary, grammar, articles and word forms.
There's no reading-comprehension part: for reading, practise with longer German texts and the exams' own model papers.
The papers are Sogda's own, generated from each step's words and grammar. They aren't official Goethe or telc papers, and their formats are Sogda's. The Goethe-Institut and telc publish model papers for every level on goethe.de and telc.net.
